About Welding

Welding is the most abundantly accepted physical process used to join materials, mostly metals or thermoplastics, with the help of the phenomenon coalescence. It is usually brought about by adding a filler material to the molten work pieces to get a pool of hot molten material. This is then cooled to obtain a very strong joint.

High pressures, accompanied with high temperatures are used to produce the weld. Welding is different from soldering and brazing, as they use lower melting point materials as fillers between the work pieces, rather than melting the work pieces themselves.

Welding can be brought about by many different energy sources such as a gas flame, a laser, an electric arc, an electron beam, ultrasound, friction, etc. There are various welding machines and welding equipments that are used for different types of welding. They employ different techniques and are used in different fields for different purposes.
